To apply for the wells mountain initiative Scholars Program 2024, you must submit a complete application via our online scholarship application process (preferred method) or via postal mail to arrive at our office by 11:59 PM EST on March 1, 2024.
Ideal Candidates: A student, male or female, from a developing country who:
Is 35 or under on March 1, 2024
has completed a secondary education with good to excellent grades;
will be studying in his or her home country or another developing country; *
plans to live and work in his or her home country after graduation;
Has previously volunteered and/or is willing to volunteer while receiving the WMI scholarship
Although they may have some other funds for education, they will be unable to attend school without a scholarship.
Submits an English-language current application that is complete and legible (please proof-read). Because we receive so many applications, we will not consider incomplete applications.
*Students planning to study in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, or Western Europe will not be eligible for a WMI Scholarship.
WMI scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD per year and are awarded throughout the recipient's undergraduate education. The maximum scholarship amount is $3000 USD, which we rarely award. Our typical scholarship award is $1500 USD.
Tuition and fees are eligible for the scholarship.

Are you aspiring to become a WMI Scholar? We are seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:
Completed secondary education with good to excellent grades
Age 35 or under as of March 1, 2024
Intending to study in a developing country or another developing world region*
Pursuing the first bachelor's degree or diploma
Enrolled in a program benefiting the community and contributing to home country growth
Planning to live and work in their home country after graduation
Demonstrated commitment to giving back through prior volunteering
Some available funds for education but unable to pursue tertiary degree without financial assistance
Applications must be submitted by March 1 each year for consideration in the following academic year. WMI Scholars undergo a comprehensive multi-step review process, with the selected scholars notified by August 1. The names of selected scholars will be published on our website and Facebook page, while those not selected will also be informed after August 1.
Family members of WMI Staff and WMI Scholars are ineligible to apply. Plagiarism, including the use of uncredited ideas, content created by others, or uncredited AI-generated content, is strictly prohibited and renders applicants ineligible.
*Note: Scholars planning to study in the United States, Canada, Australia, UK, or Western Europe are not eligible for a WMI Scholarship.
Tips for a Competitive Application:
Document all service activities, including dates, activities, time spent, and photographs.
Gather secondary school transcript, national exam results, and grading keys for result interpretation.
Obtain two letters of recommendation on official stationery.
Translate all documents into English.

You can apply either online or by mailing a completed application packet to our office.
Online Application:
Create a free account, fill out information, and upload documents.
Apply online to save your work, return multiple times, and ensure receipt and review.
Mail-In Application:
Print the 2024 application form, complete it, and attach required documents.
Mail the application to our office, ensuring it arrives by March 1, 2024.
Note: We strongly recommend applying online for convenience and timely delivery.
There are NO FEES to submit a scholarship application to the Wells Mountain Initiative. Submit a complete application through our website by the March 1 deadline. Report any request for fees to info@wellsmountaininitiative.org for investigation and action against fraud. Good luck to all applicants!
