Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan students for the award of undergraduate scholarships under the Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme and  Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme   offered by the Government of India for the academic year 2023/24.


There are 95 scholarships available. 

01. General Eligibility Prerequisites for Indian Government scholarship for sri lanken students 2023/2024: -

(a) Must be a Sri Lankan citizen.

(b) Be the age of 18- 302 on 2013.03.08

(c) Students must have obtained three passes in the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination administered by the Sri Lankan Department of Examinations.

(d) Excellent command of the English language. (A "C" pass in English at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination and a "S" pass at the G.C.E A/L Examination is required.)

(e) Be in good health and willing to live in India during the study period.

(f) The applicant must not be registered or enrolled in a course at a university in Sri Lanka as an internal student (a student chosen by the UGC based on G.C.E. A/L results).

Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme - 75  scholarships available


 Engineering(BE/B.Tech), Science, Business, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, Humanities and Arts, 


The ICCR Scholarship Council does not arrange admission to Medical/Dental/Paramedical (Nursing, Physiotherapy, Anesthesia)/Fashion Design programmes. The field of study chosen at the outset will not be changed under any circumstances.

Round-trip Airline Ticket (Please note that students, who are selected for courses of study in sciences, should bear the laboratory fees & related charges)

05. Additional Information:

(a) Candidates who are awarded a scholarship for undergraduate studies will not be considered for the University Grants Commission's university admission process.

(b) Without prior notice, the conditions outlined in this notification may change based on the criteria imposed by Indian authorities.

(c) Candidates who have received placements may not decline the scholarship unless the Higher Educational Institute in question is not recognised by the University Grants Commission.

(b) If a student declines the offer (except as provided in clause c above), he or she will not be considered for any of the scholarships during the year.

(d) The Ministry does not recommend that the scholarship period be extended.

06. Applications:

b) The deadline for submitting an application is March 8, 2023.

c) Applicants should only submit one application via the online portal and are not required to send it by mail.

d) Any statement in the application that is found to be incorrect/false will be disqualified at any time and the award will be withdrawn.

e) Any submission that is incomplete or received late will be rejected.

Nominations and Selections:

07. Nominations and Selections: 

(a) Nominations will be made following a short list of applications based on the Z score obtained at the G.C.E A/L Examination. These nominations will be forwarded to India's High Commission in Colombo.

(b) As the awarding authority, the Government of India will make the final selections. As a result, no candidate should consider his or her nomination for a scholarship to be an acceptance for an award. Acceptance is entirely at the discretion of the granting authority.

(c) Any form of canvassing, whether written or verbal, will disqualify you from receiving a scholarship.
