Ranked second in prestige only to the esteemed President's Scholarship, the SAF Scholarship, formerly known as SAF Overseas Scholarship (SAFOS), beckons those who find honor in service and duty – a noble calling to be where it matters most. This scholarship unfolds unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional development, laying the groundwork for the highest echelons of command and management.
The SAF Scholarship invites scholars to actively participate in operations that directly contribute to Singapore's peace and security. Through a sequence of command, instructional, and staff appointments, scholars refine their skills as leaders, managers, planners, and strategists.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Singapore citizens or permanent residents aspiring to attain citizenship
- Strong academic background, demonstrated by excellent GCE 'A' Level or International Baccalaureate results, Polytechnic Diploma (with Merit), or equivalent qualifications
- Noteworthy co-curricular activities (CCA) records
- Exceptional leadership qualities
- Qualification for and excellence in Officer Cadet School
- Strong interest in pursuing a military career
- All MINDEF/SAF scholarships are open for application to both genders
VALUE OF AWARD
Recipients of the SAF Scholarship enjoy a comprehensive award package, including:
- Full salary for the duration of overseas studies, including bonuses
- Full coverage of tuition fees and approved academic charges
- Maintenance and additional allowances for items such as books, clothing, and computers
- Return airfare
- One-time sponsorship for summer exchange programs
- Sponsorship for up to 4 years of studies, inclusive of a Master’s degree if applicable

For those pursuing a Master's degree, the completion of studies is expected within 4 years. However, professional courses such as architecture, medicine, and dentistry are exceptions and are not eligible for sponsorship.
