Cuban Undergraduate Scholarships for sri lanken students – Academic Year 2024/25




The Ministry of Education invites eligible Sri Lankan candidates to apply for an Undergraduate Scholarship in Medicine for the academic year 2024, offered by the Republic of Cuba at the Latin American University of Medicine (ELAM).

1. General Eligibility Requirements: (a) Applicant must be a citizen of Sri Lanka. (b) Age should be under 25 years as of February 28, 2024 (between 16 and 25 years old). (c) Minimum of three passes at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination 2022 in the Biological stream. (d) Proficiency in English (Minimum "C" pass in G.C.E. (O/L) Examination and "S" pass at G.C.E. (A/L) Examination). (e) Good health and readiness to reside in Cuba during the study period. (f) Not registered or enrolled in a course at a state university in Sri Lanka as an internal student.

2. Medium of Study: Spanish Language (Note: Selected candidates must arrive in Cuba before the end of August 2024 for preparatory studies in Spanish Language.)

3. Terms of Award: (a) The Government of Cuba covers Education, Accommodation, Food, and Medical Care. (b) The student is responsible for the cost of the air ticket to and from Cuba.

4. Special Notes: (a) Scholarship recipients are not considered for the university admission process of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. (b) Scholarship conditions may change based on criteria set by the Cuban Government without prior notice. (c) Candidates must choose Higher Educational Institutes recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. (d) Declining the offer disqualifies the student from future scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education. (e) Extension of the scholarship period will not be recommended by the Ministry.

5. Applications: (a) Online applications are available at: https://foreignscholarships.mohe.gov.lk/ (b) The application deadline is February 28, 2024. (c) Applicants should submit only one online application; no printed documents need to be sent by post. (d) Incorrect/false statements in the application may lead to disqualification. (e) Incomplete or late applications will be rejected.

6. Nominations & Selections:

  • Nominations based on the merit order of the Z Score of qualified applicants.
  • Nominations forwarded to the Cuban Embassy in Sri Lanka.
  • Final selection made by the Republic of Cuba as the awarding authority.
  • Nomination does not guarantee the scholarship; confirmation is at the discretion of the awarding authority.
  • Any form of canvassing, whether written or verbal, will lead to disqualification for the scholarship.
