The University of Sussex is pleased to announce the Cate Haste Scholarship in Media and Film for 2024. Applicants holding an offer of a place on one of the following Masters courses are invited to submit an application for this award:

  • Journalism and Documentary Practice MA

  • Media Practice for Development and Social Change MA

Both applicants assessed as 'Home' or 'Overseas' for fees are eligible to apply.

Cate Haste, an alumna of the University of Sussex (1966), was a distinguished television producer and writer. She produced many historical documentaries such as "End of Empire" (1984) and "The Churchills" (1995), and authored several books including "Keep the Home Fires Burning: Propaganda in WW1" (1977), "Nazi Women" (2001), "Clarissa Eden: A Memoir – From Churchill to Eden" (2008), "The Goldfish Bowl: Married to the Prime Minister" (with Cherie Booth; 2005), and "Rules of Desire: Sex in Britain WW1 to the Present" (1992). Her book "Passionate Spirit: the Life of Alma Mahler" was published in 2019 and explores the life of Alma Mahler, a composer, author, socialite, and extraordinary intellect.
